Presto Assistant is the official BISD Fine Arts used system to track band enrollment, demographic information, school owned instrument inventory, and band fees. All students will need to have at least one parent access the Presto assistant. You may use the link below to access the website.

The BAND app is the primary form of communication for the SMS band. In the BAND app, parents will receive group updates, see the full band calendar, and have a method to message band directors directly. Important information regarding band events may be missed if you have not joined the BAND app. Please use the links below to join the correct channel for your child:

We know the beginning of the school year can be expensive. This year, we're asking each family to pay a $50 band fee. This fee pays for supplies that the district does not fund including, but not limited to, copies, bus transportation, supplementary instruction, and band hall supplies. Please arrange to pay the 2026 band fee at your earliest convenience and reach out to Mr. Schechter if you have any questions or concerns.
The 2026-2027 School-owned instrument fees should have also been assigned to students who utilize a school owned instrument (Oboe, Bassoon, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, French Horn, Euphonium, Tuba, Percussion). The fee may be paid in full or partially with 1/2 due at the end of each semester.
Fees can be paid through Presto or via cash or check made out to 'Smithfield Middle School'

It is the goal of the Birdville Independent School District Fine Arts Department to provide the very best learning experiences for each band student. One of these learning experiences is the opportunity for a student to study privately with a professional instrumentalist. This enrichment opportunity is available to all band students in grades 6-12 and is optional. The Private Lesson Program serves a twofold purpose. It allows interested students to receive additional individual help in their musical training. Secondly, this individual attention generally improves the performance level of the individual student and also has a positive effect on the band/choir in which the student participates
The Smithfield Band Private Lesson Program is a vital part of the students' music education. The one-on-one learning environment is the optimum educational setting. ALL students are encouraged to take advantage of this enrichment opportunity. The BBBI is committed to assisting students with scholarship for private lessons. With scholarship assistance in the form of half scholarships, private lessons have never been more affordable. There are a LIMITED number of scholarships available. In order to qualify for scholarship, students and parents must fill out the application form and submit.

With our large and growing band program, we are in need of chaperones for some of our events to assist with student monitoring this school year. For off-campus events, this will allow one of the directors to transport gear/instruments to events and allow for more space for students on the busses. We understand that you may not know your exact availability for all events, but we wanted to get the dates on your radar.
Details for each event (times and chaperones needed) are indicated in ( ) after each event title.
If you are available to help, please make sure you are a BISD and Smithfield Middle School approved chaperone.
